Snowfall Software Vision

While developing logistics software for organizations like American Airlines and Toyota, Snowfall Software founder and CEO Todd Tillinghast began to consider the possibilities. Software was enabling the successful coordination of planes, equipment, people and supplies at the world's busiest airports even in the most complex scenarios. Software was also a main component for an efficient manufacturing process at Toyota that coordinated the arrival of raw materials from points across North America at the manufacturing facility at the time of need based on the vehicles on the assembly line. Imagine applying these same concepts to the composition, management and delivery of content worldwide in a single interface.

What if you were also able to develop features and breakthroughs in an application that did not require a browser? In other words, an innovative solution without the vulnerable security risks, without demanding high performance machines or architecture, and without high speed connectivity requirements? And what if you were able to apply this innovative solution to the most demanding of texts in terms of typesetting requirements, language requirements, and requirements for collateral resources -the Bible? Innovative? Absolutely. Powerful? We like to think evolutionary.

Laying the Groundwork

Consider that five years ago, Todd Tillinghast set out to develop and refine software that would revolutionize the publishing industry. While in high demand for his expertise, he walked away from a successful, thriving career in programming and founded Snowfall Software. Todd committed himself full-time to laying a solid foundation that would support the demands of the next generation of typesetting. Snowfall Software grew out of a passion for making scripture available to all people. He took the time to surround himself with the highest concentration of experts in typesetting the Bible worldwide. The vision goes beyond Snowfall Software to include years of work on the OSIS Technical Committee [Standards body for scripture in digital form], and working with the Bible Societies training, developing and automating typesetting processes and tools. Frost became the software catalyst for not only typesetting scripture, but composing, managing, merging and sharing of content.

Meeting the Challenge

In early 2004 Snowfall Software was approached by the International Forum of Bible Agencies to demonstrate the feasibility of print-on-demand for Bibles and more specifically two language Bibles. Snowfall Software delivered the demonstration that composed-on-demand a PDF based on the printers input and shipped the printed books to the meeting of the 25 international Bible Agencies that make up the International Forum of Bible Agencies. Having worked with digital content for several years and having accomplished the composition-on-demand aspect of print-on-demand, Snowfall Software began researching the reasons behind the lack of print-on-demand applications by Bible societies. In the months that followed Snowfall Software researched the printing aspect of book publishing and quickly realized the evolving potential of compose on demand technologies, and the enormous opportunity presented by print on demand technologies. In April of 2007, Snowfall Press, LLC was formed. Innovative software brings together the Compose On Demand technologies of Snowfall Software, with the unique business model of Snowfall Press to bring an evolutionary end-to-end solution for reaching a global, transient market.
